The ECC83 is still the most important preamp and driver tube. My favourites are still the Telefunken types and the large plate Philips and Siemens types from the 50s. The Lorenz ECC83s sound very nice, too. All special tubes I've heard (as ECC803S or E83CC) do not really improve the sound quality. But if you are prepared to pay their prices... Better spend the money on special ECC88 tubes (as E188CC)!! |
