  The VS56 is the successor to the VS55. Though the unit looks quite similar there are some significant changes:

- the optical design was changed

- better coupling caps

- the preamp tubes are now ECC808s

- bigger output transformers

- tube clamps for the ECL82

- the preamp design was modified

- new designed input stage

- feedback loop now using 16Ω tap on OPT

 

  The ECC808 ought to be a low noise ECC83, but I think the slight improvement concerning the surface noise of the VS55 results from the superior input stage.

 

  Finally the bigger OPTs are another feature which make this amp one of the best sounding Telewatt tube amps.

 

  My absolutely recommended version is the original (first) VS56 (without additional low and high / noise filters) - as shown on the first picture.
